Water level at Lake Murray to be reduced again - (Columbia-AP) September 9, 2005 - Officials with South Carolina Electric and Gas Company say they need to reduce the water level at Lake Murray to make repairs to the 75-year-old dam northwest of Columbia. Utility spokesman Eric Boomhower says the utility needs to reduce the water level by as much as ten feet to add stone to stop erosion at the dam. The water level at the dam was reduced sharply for two years while a backup dam was constructed. Water levels increased again last year. Boomhower says work is scheduled to begin in November and is expected to take up to seven weeks. |
